Franchise Consultant in Jacksonville, FL Provides Tips to Franchisees on Discover Day

Discovery Day is the job interview for franchisees, so be sure to put your best foot forward and avoid the common pitfalls

Feb. 18, 2009 - PRLog -- Jacksonville, FL – A lot of research goes into choosing the right franchise business for the aspiring entrepreneur.  Once he has found one that seems to be a good fit, talked to existing franchisees, read the FDD report and collected all the data needed, it’s time for Discovery Day.

Rick Bisio is a Franchise Consultant who advises entrepreneurs on making good decisions when they consider buying a franchise.  When asked ‘what is Discovery Day?’ Rick said, “Discovery Day is a two-way street designed for you to discover more about the franchisor, and for the franchisor to discover more about you.  Most franchisors hold Discovery Days at their headquarters where time can be spent answering questions and addressing information issues, face to face.”

Rick explained how Discovery Day is an opportunity to meet the franchise management team, evaluate their operation, and complete your franchise education while determining if you are apt to be a successful franchisee.

Rick said, “There are several common pitfalls you want to avoid making on Discovery Day.  Remember that this is an interview; be sure to sell yourself.  You are entering into a long term relationship where a franchisor will want to be sure you will be successful so he continues to grow and succeed.  Though support and training is provided, the franchisor will want to know that you can learn the ropes and run your business without 24/7 support on a long-term basis.  Dress for success; Discovery Day is not the day to show up in jeans and a t-shirt, even if the business is one with a casual atmosphere.  Show willingness to learn the system; don’t go in and try to impress the franchisor with your knowledge and ideas for making improvements just yet.  Indicate that you are impressed with their proven system and that you are ready to comply.”

Rick also said to be sure to have a financial plan in place to show that you have reviewed your finances in detail with the franchise development person.  Rick said, “This will indicate that you are a serious business person who can afford to buy this franchise and pay your bills until the business becomes self-sustaining.  Also, be proactive; ask good questions that demonstrate your interest and be a good listener.”

As the interview was concluded, Rick said, “Make sure you match the corporate culture; your chances for success are optimum when you relate with both the franchisors management team and the existing franchisees.  Avoid the pitfalls and use Discovery Day to your advantage; show up well prepared with the right attitude.
