Feb. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- UK building group Linford has been shortlisted for the prestigious 2009 Contractor of the Year award.

Linford is one of seven companies competing for the title Contractor of the Year (up to £500m turnover) in Building magazine’s construction industry awards.

The judges will be reflecting on a year which has seen Linford Group deliver a series of outstanding and high profile contracts in both new-build and restoration work, including:

•   the Saracen’s Head in Kings Norton (winner of the BBC1 Restoration series);
•   Albion Place in Oxford (a new-build residential scheme which secured an Eco Excellent award and set us on our journey towards a target of only delivering new schemes at the highest level of sustainability);
•   the Molineux Hotel in Wolverhampton (a fusion of high-quality new-build and restoration work highlighted in a new English Heritage publication as an exemplar of ‘constructive conservation’), and
•   Quakers Friars in Bristol (the transformation of two Scheduled Monuments and a Grade I building, against a guaranteed fixed price, on time and budget in the middle of a £500m shopping centre development site)

Alongside that, the company has introduced a range of service innovations including Linford Specialist Works (one of the UK’s largest specialist crafts operations), a rapid response service for fire-damaged historic buildings, and Czero – a company specialising in building low-carbon houses from hemp and lime based materials.

Chief executive Simon Linford said: “I am delighted that the hard work, skill and innovation that is shown day-in and day-out by everyone at Linford is being so widely recognised, not just in awards like this but by our customers and by our peers across the industry.

“The last few years have been transformative for Linford Group, with the major relocation of our head office and new-build business to Birmingham’s Fort Dunlop building, several key acquisitions of specialist craft businesses, the launch of new services in a number of markets and a major refocusing across the operation towards sustainability and low-carbon building.

“And underpinning it all have been important strides forward in key areas such as training, corporate social responsibility, work / life balance, research and development, health and safety, customer satisfaction and supply chain management.”

Linford has been nominated for the Contractor the Year (up to £500m turnover) award alongside six other contractors: 8build, A & S Enterprises, Leadbitter Group, R W Armstrong + Sons, Shaylor Construction, and Thomas Vale Construction. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on London on 2nd April.
