Feb. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- The launch of the new online community at www.theonlineclan.com comes less than four months after the launch of Activision’s latest COD offering ‘Call of Duty 5’. A large exodus of COD2 gamers to its World War 2 successor had led to fears that the shoot-em-up may become consigned to the history books. However, the launch of a Punkbuster-enabled server containing an exciting and original mix of custom and original maps with various game types has dispelled such fears.

The {CLAN} is a 30-player server consisting of a mix of game types on a range of original and custom maps. The most predominant gametype is Capture The Flag but each week members are allowed to choose the other gametypes that will feature on the following week’s rotation.  The UK-based server, which is hosted by Gaming Deluxe, prides itself on its regularly updated map rotations that feature such classic custom maps as Commando, Eindhoven, Peaks, Destroyed Village and Bremen, many of which are supplied to the server by codutility.com.

One of the stand-out features of the new COD2 server is its use of the Extreme 2.4 Mod, which has been provided to The {CLAN} courtesy of {PST} Joker.

Members of The {CLAN} collectively possess many years of gaming experience. Current members hail from Holland, Ireland, England, Norway, Scotland and Finland.

A spokesperson for The {CLAN] commented, “The {CLAN] aspires to attract members and gamers who believe in having fun in a hassle and cheat free environment. The [CLAN] is aimed towards gamers aged 18 plus.”

He added, “Membership of The {CLAN} means more than being part of a wider group of online gamers with common interests. Members of the {CLAN} are given the opportunity to help shape the operation of the server and the clan itself. The {CLAN} does not use a ranking system for its members i.e. there are no admins. All {CLAN} members are, in effect, admins. All members are equal in their status and having regard to their ability to implement change, influence opinion and overall ownership of the clan. That is what sets us apart from other gaming clans.”

“We would like to invite anyone with an interest in COD2 to come experience the online gaming experience we have to offer at {CLAN}”, the spokesperson concluded.

The {CLAN} COD2 server is now live at 193.47.83.176:28930.

Call of Duty 2 is a first-person shooter video game and sequel to the critically acclaimed game Call of Duty. It was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It was released on October 25, 2005 for PC and November 15, 2005 for the Xbox 360. Other versions were made for mobile phones as well as Pocket PCs and Smart phones. The game is set during World War II and is experienced through the perspectives of three soldiers in the Red Army, British Army and United States Army.

The game was met with a positive public reception, receiving mostly positive reviews from critics. The Xbox 360 version sold over 250,000 copies in its first week, and had sold 1.4 million copies by October 2006.
