Recession Buster: Holiday Home Giveaway

With credit tightening and unemployment rising, the dream of a second home in the sun is fading for millions of Britons. Now there is a chance to win a holiday home in the Caribbean with a phone-in competition being run by Competition Mad.

Feb. 6, 2009 - PRLog -- “With a recession and terrible weather right now, I guess everyone in the UK is feeling pretty low.” says Competition Mad boss, Stephen Cooper. “It's times like these that owners of holiday homes choose to jet off to the sun, but this simply isn't an option for millions of Britons,” he continues, “ So we decided to put up a competition to give everyone the chance to be the proud owner of a place in the sun.”

The new web site, www.CompetitionMad.com launched this month. The site aims to offer a variety of prizes to the British public and is starting with this killer prize. The Studio apartment is in Cabarete, Dominican Republic. The building has a swimming pool and is five minutes from the bars and restaurants in the centre of the resort, and ten minutes walk to the beach.

“The flat is fully furnished, and is in move in condition,” Cooper states, “The winner would simply have to turn up with sheets and towels.” The full legal process to transfer the title takes time, but Competition Mad will be paying all the legal fees. A contract will be put in place immediately giving the winner full ownership over the apartment, giving them the right to live in it, rent it out, or sell it straight away. “Owning your own place beats a timeshare, hands down,” declares Cooper.

Entry to the competition isn't free. To win the prize, entrants have to call a premium rate number which is charged at £1.50 per minute and answer a question. Those getting the answer right then enter their telephone number which is put forward into a prize draw. The
question is about the location of the Dominican Republic. Unlike most nations in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic does not occupy all of it's island, and so those looking at the map will see that the island has a different name. The correct answer to the competition is the name of that island. The call generally lasts a little under five minutes. The competition will close on the 1st March.

At a value of £36,000, this prize is worth a lot less than other property prizes offered  in the UK right now. However, at £50 per entry, those property raffles are considerably more expensive to enter. Buying a raffle ticket over the internet can be complicated. Competition Mad's format of a telephone competition is a tried a tested formula, and at £1.50 a minute, entry is a fraction of the cost of a property raffle.

“I like pub quizzes and competitions, and the aim of Competition Mad is to build up a series of these quizzes,” Stephen explains, “We already have a second competition to win a 42” flat screen LCD TV under way, and there are more competitions that will go live through the month.

“This is the launch of our web site, and we are testing demand with this prize. If there is an appetite for these competitions we intend to go into print, producing a puzzle book every month with Sudoku, Codewords, Crosswords and Wordsearches, all with fantastic prizes.”

More information on these prizes can be found at www.CompetitionMad.com. The competition line to win the holiday home can be reached by calling 0907 004 0057, the number for the flat screen TV competition is 0906 664 0718. In both cases, callers must be over 18 and have the phone bill payer's permission. Both lines are charged at £1.50 a minute and each call should last no longer than 5 minutes.
