This Sunday’s Coral Ridge Hour Shows D.C. Landmarks That Display America’s Christian Heritage

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL.  – The nationally televised Coral Ridge Hour program http://www.coralridge.org/medialibrary/default.aspx?mediaID=CRH0906_F takes viewers on a tour of D.C. landmarks this Sunday, February 8, to show how America’s godly past is chiseled in stone and splashed on canvas across our nation’s capital.

The architectural evidence contrasts sharply with the much more secularized account of America’s past presented in the new Capitol Visitor Center.  The Coral Ridge Hour recently profiled the Visitor Center http://www.coralridge.org/medialibrary/default.aspx?mediaID=CRH0906_F and offered viewers the opportunity to sign a petition urging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to give tourists a much more faithful presentation of the American story.

This Sunday’s program goes to the U.S. Capitol building, the U.S. Supreme Court building, the Library of Congress, and the Washington Monument, where the Christian and biblical heritage of our nation is unmistakably on display.

“To erase the testimonies of our Christian heritage from the nation’s capital would require a major renovation of Washington, D.C.,” notes Dr. James Engle, who narrates The Coral Ridge Hour’s “Read the Walls” segment on Sunday’s program. “The paintings and inscriptions and statues and monuments shout to the generations that the highest values of our Western Civilization and of these United States of America are firmly grounded and rooted in the one true God.”

In an examination of one Washington, D.C., landmark, the program looks at four of eight massive oil paintings found in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol building. The four paintings are distinctively Christian. One chronicles the discovery of the New World with Christopher Columbus bearing a cross. A second features a group of Pilgrims huddled around a Geneva Bible. A third painting shows the planting of a cross to commemorate the discovery of the Mississippi River by the explorer De Soto. Finally, a fourth painting is that of the Christian baptism of the Native American convert Pocahontas, who came to trust in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord.

“The truth about our Christian history is etched in the walls of Washington, D.C.,” said Dr. Jerry Newcombe, host of  The Coral Ridge Hour , “but there are those people who would like to rewrite that history and leave God out.”
