Feb. 1, 2009 - PRLog -- Highland, New York, January 27, 2009—The W.T. Rawleigh Company announced today that it’s celebrating its 120th anniversary as a direct sales purveyor of home remedies and fine spices and seasonings.  W.T. Rawleigh has provided customers with quality natural products for home, hearth and health applications since 1889, when then 17 year old William T. Rawleigh founded the company in his mother’s kitchen with $15, a mortgaged buggy and a horse he borrowed from a neighbor.

The original product line that W.T. Rawleigh sold door to door consisted of four medicines: Rawleigh Antiseptic Salve, Rawleigh Internal Liniment, Rawleigh Medicated Ointment, and Rawleigh External AP Oil, all of which are still being manufactured today because of their proven history of effectiveness, quality and value.  For example, during World War II, Australian soldiers carried Rawleigh Antiseptic Salve in their first aid kits to treat wounds and ward off infections.

In 1898 W.T. Rawleigh moved from his mother’s kitchen to a new factory in a residential section of Freeport, Illinois.  Here the company added spices and seasonings to their line of products and began the practice of quality control tests and standards for strength and uniformity, a practice which continues today.

By 1920, W.T. Rawleigh Company was the largest manufacturing organization in the world, with seven factories and over one hundred tons of raw material in storage, making W.T. Rawleigh the Bill Gates of his day.  In the mid 1920’s, William T. Rawleigh entered the flavorings and extracts market when he purchased vanilla plantations in Madagascar, the source of the finest vanilla beans in the world.

At the time vanilla prices were highly inflated due to an artificially created shortage from a monopoly of a few closely connected dealers.  W.T. Rawleigh successfully fought them by publicizing their unethical practices reduced the price of vanilla from $9.50 a pound to $2.50 a pound, thus backing his claims of commitment to quality and value.

This commitment still lives on in the W.T. Rawleigh Company, as does the practice of direct sales, although there’s no longer a “Rawleigh man” who comes door to door in a horse and buggy.  Rawleigh flavorings, spices and seasonings, home remedies and cleaning products are now sold over the Internet and telephone by direct sales representatives worldwide, ensuring that you still have one friendly person to deal with for all your household needs.

W.T. Rawleigh’s first advertisement in 1892 stated, “Everything positively guaranteed to give satisfaction or no Sale.”  This money-back guarantee also continues today.  As rawleigh-products.com states: “Our products carry a 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee.”  W.T. Rawleigh and Company is able to do this because their products have been successfully satisfying customers with their quality and value for over 120 years.
