Jan. 27, 2009 - PRLog -- The Valley Trojans of the Labelle Community Football League and Central Valley Coyotes of the Arena Football League 2, came together to co-host a football tryout on January 24th, 2009. This marked the first time that a minor league football team and a professional team paired up to co-host such an event.

The forecast called for rain, and in the morning that is exactly what came. None-the-less, players started showing up early to register. Approximately 50 athletes registered and competed in this tryout. By noon everyone was weighed in and completed the 225lbs bench press station. Next up were four agility stations; broad jump, 40 yard dash, shuttle and the L-drill. It became apparent that there were some good athletes as these drill got started; we were witness to a 4.31 second 40 yard dash, followed by a few 4.4’s, then a 10’2” broad jump and some blazing times in the shuttle and L-drill.

Once the final agility test was completed, the players were sent on a brake and the coaches started setting up for the next segment, individual position workouts. After all, just because someone runs a 40 yard dash in 4.31 seconds does not mean that they can play football. But to the pleasant surprise of the staff, most of the athletes were football players! The competition between wide receivers and defensive backs was one for the ages. With everyone competing for roster spots the intensity was on high, and that made for some amazing passes, catches and pass defenses!

In the end, the Coyotes staff headed home with 4-5 players they are interested in; with only 23 active players during the season, this event was a huge success for them. The Trojans however came out of this with lot of new talent to invite back for their next tryouts in February, and with their season not starting until the fall, there is plenty of time for new talent to still apply and make the 53 man roster.

With the success of this event both organizations were already talking about holding more next season.
