Find strength and serenity in Long’s latest book

The Caregiver’s Choice offers solid, uplifting advice to caregivers

Bloomington, IN (January 12, 2009): In The Caregiver’s Choice, award-winning author Elaine Long shares real and honest thoughts about caring for her mother and her husband at the same time during their illnesses.

Her mother suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, and her husband, after having a heart attack, was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.  Long had to find a way past the grief, anger and guilt that often trouble the caregiver. She did this by changing her mind. The Caregiver’s Choice presents the truths that the caregiver needs to focus on in order to maintain a peaceful life despite the burden of caring for loved ones who cannot care for themselves.

If my words make sense to you, if they bring you hope and point a way toward
equilibrium, if they offer comfort, then accept them with my love and
respect.

There are millions of caregivers all across the world who need the support that The Caregiver’s Choice offers. The book is an easy-to-read, short-chaptered, non-fiction guide that respects the caregivers’ rights to make decisions according to their own abilities and needs. In these fourteen chapters, Long infuses home-grown wisdom with an empathetic approach covering the broad mental and physical issues of caregiving such as learning to forgive family members, avoiding unfounded optimism and battling gloom.  She offers many practical tips for the caregiver including suggestions for learning about the disease, keeping index cards to record prescriptions that are administered and using simple techniques for time management.

Although many of the chapters in The Caregiver’s Choice discuss the caregiving the author gives to her mother, Long shows that while each patient is unique and equally complex, the problems faced by all caregivers are very similar.  The Caregiver’s Choice helps the caregiver to address those problems and survive with strength and serenity.
