Queen City Prep Wins the MLK Day Prep Shootout

The Queen City Prep Trailblazers win the MLK Day Prep Shootout sponsored by Elite 75 on Martin Luther King Jr.'s Day at the Irwin Recreation Center in downtown Charlotte.

Jan. 20, 2009 - PRLog -- Charlotte, North Carolina-On Martin Luther King Jr.'s holiday, the Queen City Prep Trailblazers were on a mission.  They competed for the championship title of this first annual tournament and came out on top.  The tournament showcased talent from several different prep schools from the Charlotte area.  The teams in this event included Quality Education Center, Carolina Prep Academy, NC Tech, Got Kids Academy and TBD Sports.  The Trailblazers defeated Carolina Prep 117-114 in triple overtime.  Milton Chavis led all scorers with 36 points.  The Trailblazers went on to defeat NC Tech 78-76 for the championship title.  Milton Chavis led the Trailblazers with 19 points and A.J. Roberts of NC Tech led all scorers with 24.  Milton Chavis was the tournament MVP.

Coach Tony Taylor stated, "This is what you play for, to bring home a championship title.  The kids worked hard and they see that the hard work pays off.  This win was big for the team and should increase their determination going forward.  I want to thank Elite 73 for inviting us to this first annual tournament and we will see them again at the second annual shootout."

Queen City Prep Academy is a non-profit, college preparatory, boarding school program that prepares basketball players to be successful college student athletes. Located in Charlotte, North Carolina, players reside in a dormitory-like facility, take courses provided by dedicated and exceptional instructors, and conduct practices and games in a local gymnasium. Their mission is to help basketball players become NCAA eligible. Founded by Tony Taylor, we serve young men from ages 14 to adulthood from across the country. We seek to prepare these young men for adulthood by developing them socially, emotionally, physically, spiritually and academically to ensure their success as college students and college athletes.The post-graduate team gains national exposure through events which attract various college basketball recruiters from across the country. Our players have the advantage of being recruited over other athletes because they gain experience playing college level basketball.
