Jan. 19, 2009 - PRLog -- Canada may be notorious for its extreme winters, but the Ottawa hip hop scene is definitely heating up with the release of Nova Scotia born rapper Devilous’ debut album titled A.O.8 Presents The Life Album.

Although lately it seems rappers are content peddling lies to the public, listening to this album has made me realize that there are artists out there that keep it real like Devilous. On his debut album, The Life Album, Devilous reports live from the streets giving it to you straight with lyrics and beats that are not easily forgotten.

Although it’s become common for other artists to rap about nonsensical violence for the sake of violence, and to help them sell records, Devilous’ lyrics are more drawn from real life experiences and the demographic is easily able to relate to them. On the track Sicks Degrees of Separation(Catch 22) he portrays the true story of rappers selling violence by rhyming “I feel sorry for them niggas that rap about killin kids/ wearin their drawers outside their pants like batman did..”  On the bangin’ track titled Touch This, A.O.8 raps about the struggle of getting out of poverty and living in the lap of luxury. To Have and to Hold has Devilous talking about his passion for stacking paper and dealing with haters. This album touches on some serious subjects in the track The Sound. Overall, The Life Album provides listeners with a substantial helping of good hip hop music.

Point blank, The Life Album is dope. What Devilous understands better than most artists is that fans definitely don’t need another album that consists merely of crazy wordplay and talk of extreme violence. The hip hop world needs an album they can live to and A.O.8 provides that with The Life Album. He puts his experiences into masterpieces that cause them to be tangible to the listener and allow them to relate to what he is rapping about as well. The Life Album succeeds in pushing the sound of hip hop forward and if Devilous can continue to make music at this level of quality then he is destined to be one of the greats.
