Top Liberian Model, Telena Cassell to be a part of Inauguration Festivities in Washington D.C.

Jan. 17, 2009 - PRLog -- Telena Cassell has competed internationally, representing Liberia in several international beauty pageants and has partnered with philanthropies around the world.  Telena, the reigning Miss Liberia International just recently competed in the Miss International Pageant in Macau, China. She has been persistent in her efforts to present a positive image of Liberia, the Gambia, and several other African countries on the world stage, as well as promote aid and tourism . Her inauguration itinerary is still tentative, but it has been confirmed that she will be presenting an award at the “Dreams From My Father” American Scholar Ball on January 18th, as well as an award to Jessie Jackson at the Dream Maker’s Ball on January 19th, 2008.

    The American Scholars Inaugural Ball will celebrate the significant accomplishments of several renowned African American intellectuals and leaders in education, while also paying tribute broadly to the country’s greatest minds and their significance to our nation’s continued position as a world leader.  The event will bring together the academic community as well as notable businesspersons, political figures and entertainers for an intergenerational occasion that will also acknowledge up-and-comers poised to lead across academia, business, politics and entertainment in the years to come. This special night, held on the eve of scholar-activist and theologian Martin Luther King, Jr.’s national holiday, will serve as the perfect backdrop to mark one of the most monumental elections in American history.  Importantly, a portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit each of their non-profit partners. Other notables including Akon, Rep. Greg Meeks (D-NY), Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, Spelman College President Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Natasha Trethewey, and Dr. Cornel West of Princeton University.

   The Dream Makers Inaugural Ball, to be held on Monday, January 19, 2009 was created to recognize the fulfillment of Dr. King’s prophetic “I Have a Dream” speech through the historic election of Barack Obama as President. The event honors the achievements of Congressman John Lewis, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Rev. Al Sharpton. They will be present to accept the Dreammakers Award for their continued efforts to keep Dr. King’s dream alive.  The event will be emceed by Grammy award winning gospel artist Bebe Winans while the remainder of the evening will include performances by Suai, Hidden Beach Recordings artist, The Tony Rich Project and others.

    Proceeds from the Dream Makers Inaugural Ball to benefit the John Lewis Scholarship Fund, National Action Network and Rainbow Push Coalition.

    With many policy makers, scholars, celebrities and illustrious notables in attendance, inauguration week is a great opportunity to increase Liberia’s world image and further demonstrate the rising emergence of the African continent. She is expected to attend other festivities and events during the inauguration week.
