Over 97% of North Shore property assessments expected to remain unchanged or decline in 2009

Thanks to a new BC law passed in November, BC Assessment has sent out 65,000 assessments across the North Shore, most of which give home owners the same or a lower assessment value than they received in 2008.

Jan. 13, 2009 - PRLog -- Due to our recent decline in the BC real estate market, a bill was passed by provincial government to reconcile the difference between assessed property values made July 1, 2008 and present values.

They will receive two options to choose from, both the 2007 and 2008 assessments.

BC Assessment, area assessor Jason Grant said that for most properties on the North Shore “this will mean there will be no change between 2008 and 2009 assessments.”

Roughly 94% of our province’s homeowners can anticipate lower or the same assessment values from last year.  In West Vancouver, those numbers increase to 97%, in North Vancouver City and District those numbers rise further to 98% and 98.5% respectively.

Due to this government intervention, the bill passing has stopped many assessment from going out with further increases.
