Provillus, sold widely on the Internet for hair growth in men does work, but there are facts men should know before purchasing Provillus. Avoid disappointment, or potential side effects associated with Provillus.

Jan. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- How Provillus Works to Restore Hair

Provillus hair growth system includes 5% Minoxidil solution, the only FDA approved product for hair growth. The 2% solution was approved by the FDA initially, and then in 1993, the 5% solution became available. Approval of Minoxidil came about after use of Minoxidil, taken orally to treat blood pressure, was found to result in hair regrowth in balding men. Provillus, in addition to topical Minoxidil, includes beneficial vitamins, herbs and minerals to be taken by capsule, that also stimulate hair growth.

No one is exactly sure how Minoxidil in Provillus works, but it is believed to be the result of its action on the hair cycle by blocking DHT, prolonging the latent period of the hair cycle. Results happen fast, peaking in six to twelve weeks.

According to the British Journal of Dermatology:

“Minoxidil affects hair cycling, causing premature termination of telogen and probably prolonging anagen. Understanding how minoxidil exerts these effects may lead not only to better treatments for hair loss but also will increase our understanding of the mechanisms responsible for controlling the hair cycle”. Vitamins and minerals included in the Provillus hair growth system include:

•Vitamin B6 - necessary for overall health, as well as hair growth
•Biotin – supports the growth of skin, hair and nails and is also important for fat and carbohydrate metabolism
•Zinc – boost immunity, is also important for healthy skin, hair, and nails
•Saw Palmetto – possibly acts as an overall tonic, and MAY block the effects of testosterone associated with hair loss
•Nettle root – an old-time tonic used in the spring for cleansing, and used as a hair tonic and shampoo.
•Pumpkin seed – believed to balance testosterone hormone levels naturally
•Siberian Ginseng – most men already know the powers of ginseng for strength, energy and hormonal balance
•Muria Pauma – who really knows, but it comes from a Brazilian shrub and is used to promote overall vitality in men.
•Uva-Ursi extract – again, research on herbs is so scarce, no one knows for sure, but it is supposedly good for overall health, and a healthy prostate.

Who Should Not use Provillus for Hair Growth

If you suffer from a dry, itching scalp, chances are you have an underlying infection or other disorder that should be diagnosed and treated by a dermatologist. Provillus hair growth will further irritate the scalp, and you are not likely to get any beneficial results.

Anyone with heart disease should first discuss using Minoxidil and the supplements provided with Provillus hair growth system. Many herbs can interfere with prescription medication, making it is important to discuss  the use of Provillus thoroughly with your doctor.

Because the supplements are designed for men’s health, women should not use Provillus hair growth system.

Precautions and Side Effects Associated with Provillus

• Do not get Provillus topical solution in your eyes, mouth or nose – if you do so,
 rinse thoroughly with water.
• Do not use Provillus with other hair growth products.
• Wash your hands after each use.
• Know that Provillus might cause temporary flaking and itching of the scalp.
• Do not use Provillus if your scalp is sunburned or otherwise irritated or
  inflamed.
• Do not use Provillus on any other area of your body.
• Know that headache can occur, and recur.

Very few men experience serious reactions from Provillus, but it is possible to have a severe allergic reaction, as with any medication or product. Signs of a serious reaction to Provillus include

• Difficulty breathing, wheezing,  swelling of the lips, tongue or face
• Chest pain or tightness
• Irregular or fast heartbeat
• Dizziness or lightheadedness
• Fainting
• Skin flushing
• Difficulty swallowing

If any of the symptoms mentioned above occur with Provillus use, seek emergency help immediately. Again, reactions are rare, but can occur.

If you are balding anywhere but on the top of the head, if your hair loss is from chemotherapy or medication use, or if you have lost hair from chronic illness, Provillus will not help.

Provillus does work to restore hair growth in male pattern baldness. Always discuss the use of supplements with your doctor. Provillus hair growth system, contains Minoxidil, the only FDA approved hair regrowth treatment available.
