Saving Construction Time and Dollars in Challenging Economic Times

TerraFirma Earth Technologies Drives Accelerated Project Success by Eliminating Groundwater Problems Before They Are a Problem
By: TerraFirma Earth Technologies

Jan. 8, 2009 - PRLog -- HOUSTON, Texas – Today TerraFirma Earth Technologies announced the expansion of its geographic coverage and team. In doing so, TerraFirma is extending its services and customer reach into the Northeastern United States, delivering superior deep excavation dewatering solutions that accelerate construction project success.

From temporarily depressing the water level of the Rio Grande River 26 feet below normal river level, setting the stage for the installation of 2 each, side by side 54” concrete encased welded steel pipe, an important component of City of Albuquerque’s San Juan-Chama Drinking Water Project, to permanently maintaining groundwater levels a safe distance beneath Houston’s Toyota Center’s subterranean playing surface, TerraFirma customers have benefitted from its unique and cost effective approach to dewatering of deep foundations. Manny Sotomi of Zachry Construction, states, “Despite an aggressive schedule, poor weather conditions, and very difficult drilling conditions encountered at the Houston Port Authority’s new state of the art Bayport Terminal, TerraFirma Earth Technologies was able to complete their work in a safe and efficient manner, on time, and on budget.”

Due to the aging of underground infrastructures and pervasive groundwater problems in the northeast, TerraFirma is expanding its services through a new Connecticut-based office. “We’re confident that our expansion into the northeast will bring new levels of economic value to construction projects, helping companies save dollars and time while also increasing jobsite safety,” states David Giles, President of TerraFirma. “In these challenging economic times, every construction project must be careful to stay on time and on budget. There is no room for error or compromise,” says Giles. “We work very hard at making sure that poor soil conditions due to a high groundwater level don’t add time or additional expense to construction projects – whether simple or complex.”

Running the new Connecticut office is New York native Mark Campbell, a 27-year dewatering and groundwater control veteran. Mark has been involved in power facility and utility line construction, wastewater treatment facilities, dam rehabilitation, rail tunnels and downtown urban foundation construction. Mr. Campbell has budgeted and overseen dewatering projects as complex as portions of the “Big Dig” in Boston, Johns Hopkins, Shot Tower Station and Tunnels in Baltimore, and as simple as emergency wellpointing of a new Fire Station excavation in Rochester, NY. Mr. Campbell will manage TerraFirma’s work in New England, Metropolitan & Upstate New York, Pennsylvania, the Wilmington/Baltimore/Washington, and DC corridor, Mid-Atlantic States, Ohio and Indiana.
