When we think of environmental hazards, we often see images of chemicals in our nation’s waters, or air pollution coming out of smokestacks. One hazard that is usually overlooked, however, is scrap tires. Scrap tires can threaten not only our environment, but the public health as well. Run-off from scrap tire fires can contaminate groundwater and surface water, and scrap tire sites are an ideal habitat for the breeding of mosquitoes carrying disease such as encephalitis, West Nile virus, dengue fever and malaria.
Scrap tire fires are difficult to extinguish and they can burn for weeks or months releasing thick black smoke that can contaminate air with harmful gases, soil with oily residue, generate significant liquid waste and contaminate ground and surface water.
In average around 7 gallons of refined oil go into one car tire. In the United States alone over 299 million scrap tires are generated annually. That is about 50 million barrels of crude oil. There are over 1 billion scrap automobile tires in landfills, storage sites and uncontrolled tire dumps across the country.
The recycling of scrap tires is a social, environmental and economic issue.
Green Energy Industries offers the most advanced, environmentally friendly and commercially viable scrap tire recycling technology – soft pyrolysis process, resulting in production of high quality petroleum-based fuels, liquified gases, carbon black, absorbents and metal scrap.
The main feature and advantage of Green Energy Industries’ solution is an efficient heating technology, where the traditional outside energy source has been replaced with an innovative electromagnetic heating system, which triples the efficiency of pyrolysis and as a result produces high quality products at a low cost.
A mini-factory that uses the above stated technology has been built in order to fine tune the technological solution within a full production cycle. The capacity of the facility is one ton (1 MT) of scrap tires a day. However, besides the capacity, all of the other parts of technology are fully represented.
The mini-factory produces all the primary materials: Artificial oil, Gas, Carbon, Metal and then process them into value-added products as Fuels, Gases, Carbon Black, Metal Ingots.
The factory is a ZERO-waste facility and produces absolutely no pollution into atmosphere, water or soil.
Billions of dollars are being invested to develop viable green energy technologies. Solar, wind and natural gas technologies have become increasingly popular. Each of them occupies a well defined place in the world’s energy production.
The renewable energy sector is seeing record growth across the board. According to Renewable Energy World, a leading periodical of those specializing on the subject, global investment in green energy reached $150 billion in 2007, which is 60% more than 2006 and nearly 10% of all global spending on energy that year. The sector on average has an annual growth rate of 14%.
