Lockett Media Successfully Helps Bring Old School Hip Hop Back on Sirius XM

Dec. 17, 2008 - PRLog -- For the past few months, Lockett Media has been immersed in a social media awareness campaign to help disgruntled Sirius XM listeners  who were upset that the satellite radio company canceled their only channel dedicated to old school Hip Hop Backspin.

Yesterday, Sirius XM issued a press release stating that Sirius XM will be bringing back Backspin and the disco favorite The Strobe back on January 15, 2009.

“Now I know how the Obama campaign feels,” says Kevin Lockett of Lockett Media. “I was shocked when I heard that Sirius XM would be bringing both channels back. This says a lot about what can be done with  social media when you want to make a change.”

Through blog posts, Facebook, a petition and a coordinated  email and phone campaign the international Bring Backspin Back movement and its 500 plus friends, put pressure on Sirius XM on a daily basis to voice their displeasure of the old school Hip Hop channel's cancellation, especially since there were still plenty of channels dedicated to classic rock.

“I am so proud of the dedication of our Backspin friends who were involved in this campaign”, Lockett says proudly, “It shows how much power the Hip Hop generation really has to offer; but I have to tell you, although I am active in social media, it still amazes me how fast a movement can grow online if you are organized and have a lot of passionate, like minded people working with you.”
