Moneytree Gew Entrepreneurship Challenge - School Kids Edge College Teams At Entrepreneur Challenge

In conjunction with the Global Entrepreneurship Week, MoneyTree organized the Entrepreneurship Challenge (Nov 17th – 23rd, 2008) whereby teams competed against each other in various business events to see how they fared on an overall basis.
 
Dec. 14, 2008 - PRLog -- KUALA LUMPUR – In conjunction with the recently concluded GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK (GEW), Money Tree Malaysia organized an Entrepreneurs Challenge.

The Challenge which was targeted at youths aged between 16-23 years of age was jointly sponsored by Taylors University College, Giordano & Open University Malaysia .The challenge which ran over 4 days, required teams of three to pit their “entrepreneurial minds” in a series of “business activities”.

At each “leg” of the challenge, teams had to complete an activity within the stipulated time. Among the activities which the teams had to complete included designing a T-shirt and proposing a marketing campaign for it  and  proposing a sustainable social responsibility program in an impoverished area in Sabah. Teams were made to present their ideas to a panel of judges , and the lowest scoring teams at each leg were eliminated.

The final leg which took place at the Putra World Trade Centre was planned to coincide with another major event, The GoMobile Conference 2008

A Total of 12 teams took part in this Challenge. A young team trained by Money Tree Malaysia emerged the champions edging out the other college and varsity teams. The team which emerged champions comprised Isaac Chan, 14, Rachel Tan, 17 and Cherish Lo, 19. The winners were presented with RM3000 in cash and an Internship with Money Tree Malaysia by Money Tree Asia Pacific’s director, Michael Reyes. The runner up was a team from Taylors University College, currently pursuing their A Levels.

Brandon Liew, Chief Executive Officer of MyMoney Tree Sdn Bhd said that he was pleased with the enthusiasm and determination displayed by all teams. “It’s a learning experience that I believe they would remember for a long time. I am proud of our Money Tree kids, who in spite of their age, have risen to the challenge” he added.

Reyes also added that Money Tree had also participated in the GEW events in Singapore, and would be organizing more such events to expose Malaysian students to an ever changing business landscape.

The Money Tree program is currently available in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. In Malaysia, the program is recognized by Open University of  Malaysia’s School of Lifelong Learning.
