Dec. 11, 2008 - PRLog -- Highly touted running back, Brandon Mason, (Pittsburgh Panthers, Stony Brook
University) has officially declared for 2009 NFL draft. Brandon started his career at running back and kick returner, for the Pittsburgh Panthers. He eventually transferred to Stony Brook, where he gained nearly 700 yards in seven games. Virtually every team in the NFL has scouted Brandon, due to his size (6'2, 225) and his playing ability.

Brandon was a star running back in high school, as well as an exceptional sprinter. Brandon gained 130 total yards of offense, including 100 yards rushing, in the 2004 Governor’s Bowl, an All-Star Classic between top senior high school football players from New York and New Jersey. Brandon's performance outpaced all of his teammates, including his backfield running mate, Shonn Greene, the standout tailback of the University of Iowa. For his efforts, Brandon was named the game’s MVP.

Brandon was recruited by numerous colleges, including West Virginia University, Iowa, Boston College, the University of Illinois, the University of Pittsburgh, Clemson University, the University of Connecticut, Rutgers University, and Syracuse University. He chose the University of Pittsburgh, where he attended on full scholarship.

Brandon was pegged to play tailback in the Panthers backfield and handle kick-off returns. However, he missed the first few games of the season with a minor injury. When he returned to the lineup, he was used as a kick returner. He was the starting kick returner in the Fiesta Bowl in January 2005 against Utah.

After his sophomore year at Pitt, Brandon transferred to the University of Delaware, where he was the roommate of Joe Flacco, the current quarterback of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. Brandon could not play at Delaware due to transfer release restrictions. He eventually was given permission to transfer to Stony Brook University, where he gained 651 yards in seven games in 2007, and racked up 7 touchdowns and a 4.2-yard average per carry. He will graduate from Stony Brook in December 2008.
