Dec. 9, 2008 - PRLog -- Ellie White, namesake of Ellie’s Closet (www.elliescloset.com) held her 7th birthday party at the JDRF walk and her team raised over $4000 for JDRF.

Ellie’s 7th birthday party was so much fun and Ellie raised over $4000 that she donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, but most important, she was overwhelmed to see how many people love her and want to help her find a cure for this disease.

Her family was overwhelmed with kind thoughts, generous donations and willing walkers.  They would like to thank everyone who participated.  There was a sea of Ellie’s knight and dragon themed black shirts with over 100 walkers on “Ellie’s Quest for a Cure” team.  Amazingly, the donations are still coming in!  The Denver JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, which is only one of over 200 walk sites, had a goal of $1 million dollars and they are very close to reaching that goal!  Last year JDRF funded more than $137 million for diabetes research which has enabled a better life for Ellie with tools such as an insulin pump and constant glucose monitoring, and over $3 million was awarded to Ellie’s endocrine practice, the Barbara Davis Center, here in Denver. Since its’ founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.16 billion to diabetes research, funding 700 centers, grants and fellowships in 20 countries.

“I can’t tell you how wonderful it has been to see Ellie’s enthusiasm.  Although having this disease is terrible, again and again I see Ellie using it as a light.  Her incredible generous spirit is a true blessing to us and I have learned so much watching how she handles the struggles that life hands us.  We have all grown so much with Ellie,” says her mother, Beth White.  Ellie is delighted to be an ambassador using this to help raise awareness of this life threatening disease.

Ellie’s Closet (www.elliescloset.com) was proud to have sponsored Ellie’s Team for the JDRF Walk.  For more information, visit them on the web.
