Nov. 10, 2008 - PRLog -- Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS) Pokhara, Nepal announces admissions to their MBBS degree, for the batch commencing February 2009. The last date for submission of applications is 7th January 2009. To be eligible for this programme, a minimum aggregate of 50% at the 10+2 or equivalent examination is required. Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS), Nepal was established in 1994. The institute is a result of collaboration between Manipal Group and the Government of Nepal. Affiliated to the Kathmandu University MCOMS is recognized across the world, for its high standards of excellence. Rated as Nepal’s institute of choice, MCOMS has been accorded recognition by the Medical Councils of Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Mauritius, besides the California Medical Boards & New York State Medical Board.  

Located in Pokhara, a scenic location 200 km west of Kathmandu, MCOMS has students joining from India, SriLanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Singapore, Middle East, Kenya, Australia, New Zealand, United States & Canada. The college is listed in the 7th edition of the WHO’s world directory of accredited medical schools and the International Medical Education Directory of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) which holds the United States Medical Licensing Exam. Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS) is also recognized by the British Columbia Student Assistance Program (BCSAP), Canada, providing the student community a rich multi cultural exposure.  

MCOMS functions from two campuses. The Deep campus, spread on 8 acres of wooded land, houses the basic sciences departments, hostels and other facilities for Basic Sciences students. In the 30 acre Phulbari campus, is located the 700 Bed Manipal Teaching Hospital (MTH), clinical teaching departments, and hostels for clinical students. The quality of service provided is of an international standard. MTH has been constructed with a futuristic approach laying emphasis on the space required for teaching programs for undergraduates, postgraduates and allied health manpower.

The four and a half years of the MBBS course is divided into nine semesters, each, six months in duration. On successful completion of the 4 ½ year MBBS degree course the student has to undergo one year of compulsory residential, rotating internship. All Indian national students who are seeking admission at MCOMS and are subsequently interested in practicing in India on graduation will be required to obtain the ‘eligibility certificate’ from the Medical Council of India prior to their enrollment at MCOMS and will have to clear the screening test, after obtaining their degree certificate, in order to practice upon their return to India
