Nov. 7, 2008 - PRLog -- Minh N. Ho, M.D., Board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and his team of embryologists at Xpert Fertility Care are introducing the latest technology for reproductive assistance, oocyte cryopreservation," or egg freezing via vitrification.

Consisting of more than 90% water, previous egg freezing techniques resulted in the formation of ice crystals, destroying cell membranes and contributing to the low success rates. The advancement of vitrification goes a step beyond the slower freeze methods to dramatically prevent ice crystal formation, hence, minimizes the damage to the oocytes.

This latest, egg freezing procedure involves the use of fertility medications to increase the number of naturally produced eggs. The patient is monitored throughout this outpatient procedure. The unfertilized eggs are extracted frozen, and stored for future use. As the integrity of human eggs deteriorates as women get older, most women over forty who become pregnant today have done so by employing a younger woman's donor eggs with which she shares no genetic relation. By egg freezing with vitrification technology, a woman may now extend her natural fertility, and have her own younger more viable eggs available if unable to conceive naturally later in life.

Oocyte cryopreservation is aimed at three particular groups of women: those diagnosed with cancer whose ovaries were in jeopardy from illness and related treatments like chemotherapy or radiation therapy that is toxic for oocytes; those undergoing treatment with assisted reproductive technologies who, for personal reasons, do not consider embryo freezing; and those who do not have a partner and would like to preserve their future ability to have children.

The XPert Fertility Care of California Inc. is committed to offer high quality services to patients as well as their physicians seeking Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) services. The Laboratories of Xpert Fertility Care of California will offer reproductive services in San Diego County as well as in Orange County. The lab is structured as an open lab" where any qualified fertility specialist can utilize it at full capacity.  Under the supervision of the Scientific Director, Ali Amadi, Ph.D., HCLD/ELD (ABB) and Medical Director, Minh N. Ho, MD, FACOG, it will offer a wide range of fertility services from basic andrology to in-vitro fertilization and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) with full credentials and licensures.
