Cheyney University Players Present An Evening of Ebony Classics

The Cheyney Players, featuring the Davis family, will present An Evening of Ebony Classics at the University's Dudley Theatre later this week.

Nov. 3, 2008 - PRLog -- Cheyney University of Pennsylvania's Theatre Arts Program will present an evening of ebony classics on Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 at 7PM.  The performance will be held in Dudley Theatre, a 300 seat production theatre located on the university’s historic quadrangle.  Students will be performing “A Soldier’s Story”, “The Amen Corner”, “Days of Absence”, “The Church Fight”, and “Junkies are Full of Shh!!!”.  The production is directed by Professor Jann Ellis-Scruggs.

Professor Scruggs is a summa cum laude graduate of Cheyney University and earned her Master of Arts degree from Villanova University and the Master of Science degree from Cheyney University in Adult and Continuing Education with honors.  In May of 2006, she was the recipient of the prestigious Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award.  Scruggs has performed in numerous stage, film, television and opera productions throughout the United States and England. Scruggs was featured in a national network commercial for Merck Pharmaceuticals and has enjoyed working on commercials for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Delaware Bank, Toyota, DuPont Industries, Cigna Corporation and the New Jersey Education Association. Her television credits include “Hack” (NBC dramatic series), ‘The Wire” (HBO) and a recurring role on ABC’s hit sitcom, “Hope & Faith” with Kelly Ripa.

The Cheyney Players are a faculty-directed, student drama organization that has been in existence since the early 1970s.  Founded by distinguished CU faculty, Edythe Scott Bagley, sister of the late Coretta Scott King, the Cheyney Players have been invited to perform numerous productions across the region.
