Weekend Walk-In Clinic Provides Convenient Treatment Option for Injured Athletes

Oct. 8, 2008 - PRLog -- WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Athletes experiencing pain the morning after a Friday night game don’t have to suffer through the weekend before treating their injuries. Mark W. Galland, a board certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, is treating injured athletes at a walk-in clinic open Saturday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The clinic is held at Orthopaedic Specialists of North Carolina’s (OSNC) Wake Forest office and is open to all high school, college and professional athletes. Dr. Galland serves as the team physician and orthopaedic consultant to many area sports teams and high schools, although athletes from any team are welcome to the Saturday clinic and will receive personal attention.

“Our main goal is to provide patients with immediate treatment to help alleviate physical pain and restore full function,” said Dr. Mark Galland, orthopaedic surgeon and managing partner for OSNC. “The OSNC clinic provides evaluation and treatment of the athletes by board certified orthopaedic surgeons specializing in Sports Medicine. While football players with Friday night injuries are the most frequent visitors, the clinic sees athletes of all sports, with a variety of injuries including knee, shoulder, foot, ankle, and hand, among others. Athletes younger than 18 years old must bring a note of parental consent to receive treatment. Referrals and appointments are not required and insured patients are only billed their standard co-pay for the visit. If a patient is uninsured, Dr. Galland will provide the treatment free-of-charge.

Dr. Galland opened the Saturday morning clinic in 2004. In addition to treating patients, Dr. Galland invites coaches, trainers and any other school or team personnel to visit the clinic and attend special presentations about injury treatment and prevention.  

Dr. Galland has an extensive background in sports medicine. He completed his residency at Tulane University, where he served as the assistant team physician to the university football and men’s basketball teams, and also served as team physician to several local high schools and colleges including Dillard and Xavier Universities. Dr. Galland currently serves as team physician and orthopaedic consultant to the Carolina Mudcats, AA Affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball, medical director and orthopaedic consultant to the Louisburg College Athletic Program, and team physician and orthopaedic consultant to several local high schools.
