The Telephone to the Dead, also known to many as “Frank’s Box”, is an electronic device that was first conceived by Thomas Edison, who believed that after life communication was possible. In an article in a 1921 issue of The Scientific American, Thomas Edison wrote: “If our personality survives, then it is strictly logical or scientific to assume that it retains memory, intellect, other faculties and knowledge that we acquire on this Earth. Therefore, if personality exists after what we call death, it is reasonable to conclude that those who leave the Earth would like to communicate with those they have left here. I am inclined to believe that our personality hereafter will be able to affect matter. If this reasoning be correct, then, if we can evolve an instrument so delicate as to be affected by our personality as it survives in the next life, such an instrument, when made available, ought to record something.”
What is The Telephone to the Dead? Frank Sumption is the original creator of this device, otherwise known as “Frank's Box”. He created the device as a means of communicating with the dead and after perfecting it, contacted Christopher Moon in order to have him test it in the field. The Telephone to the Dead scans AM and FM frequencies in a continuous fashion, creating white noise, which people believe spirits can use to communicate with us in real time. The box is said to be interactive because you can ask questions directly to the spirits and receive replies from them as you are speaking in their own voice. Frank Sumption made the box using radio, electric and computer components. He made the first box in 2002, after being prompted to do so from the spirit world. Recently, Christopher Moon appeared on A&E’s Paranormal State and used The Telephone To The Dead during an investigation. On September 26-28, 2008, Christopher Moon will be a speaker at HauntedCon which is being held at the San Carlos Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona along with several other celebrity paranormal A-listers that include Chip Coffey and Ryan Buell.
Christopher Moon had his first paranormal experience at the age of seven. Daily occurrences from that time on included objects disappearing and reappearing;
In 2003, seeing a true need for formal paranormal education, Christopher opened a public event entitled Ghost Hunter University. These one of a kind events are held at various haunted locations around the United States. It includes fully interactive seminars titled “Ghost Hunting 101” and “Ghost Hunting 102”. His popular Ghost Hunting 101 seminar covers the basics of ghost hunting, from ghost hunting protocol, to equipment used in the field, to definitions and examples of positive and negative evidence. Following this seminar, the venue provides attendees with dinner and a haunted history presentation. The highlight of the evening is the interactive paranormal investigation of the property, led by Christopher, which follows. The night is completed with an evidence sharing and wrap-up session after the investigation. Christopher’
While searching for magazine staff in 2004, Christopher was contacted by an engineer by trade, Frank Sumption, who claimed to have a device that allowed two-way audio communication with the dead. Skeptical, Christopher met with Mr. Sumption at his workshop for a demonstration. Christopher was astounded to find that the device that Frank Sumption had built was actually designed through the E.V.P. (Electronic Voice Phenomena) of deceased scientists. It quickly became obvious to Christopher what Frank Sumption had done; he had completed the infamous Thomas Edison Telephone to the Dead. Frank graciously offered to give Christopher one of the machines to use in the field. He accepted, and first used the device while investigating the famous Sallie House in Atchison, Kansas. The machine worked flawlessly, and Christopher and his team collected real time E.V.P. evidence directly from the spirits in the house. The Telephone to the Dead, which Christopher refers to this device as, formally referred to as “Frank’s Box”, has become an invaluable tool in Christopher’
