Sept. 21, 2008 - PRLog -- Dee Spencer, CEO and Founder of DeeWorks Entertainment based in East Orange, NJ is proud to announce the 2nd Season of the NJ Performance Lab on Friday, October 3, 2008 @ 7:30 pm located at (Arlington House) 378 N. Arlington Ave., East Orange, NJ 07017.    A rising star in the acting community, Ms. Spencer, an Actor/Director/Producer/Poet has seen the need to give back to her community by starting the NJ Performance Lab (NJPL)  in East Orange.

The NJPL first started in February  15, 2008 in the formal living room of a friend's home on N. Arlington (lovingly referred to as Arlington House) which was converted to a cafe style atmosphere every Friday night thru June 20, 2008.  The NJPL is a spin-off chapter of the Performance Lab Houston founded/hosted by Actor/Director/Producer, Mr. Curtis Von of Acting Bad Productions.  Each week,  eager performers (Actors/Singers/Poets/Comedians) would come and "Hit the Stage" and face the judges for critics and feedback for improvement on their performance.  A winner was selected each week and presented with a trophy. The weekly winners were eligible to compete in the Grand Finale Showcase which was held on June 20, 2008 for a trip to Houston, Tx  to compete and a cash prize.

The 1st Grand Prize Winner was Singer, Michelle V. Martin who wowed the judges with her memorable rendition of "Say Yes".  Michelle will have the chance to fly to Houston, TX to compete against the Performance Lab Houston Winner when their lab reconvenes.  (PLH is currently looking for a new home).  Other winners from the 1st Season Finale were 2nd Place - Ms. Dee Kelly and 3rd Place - Naewaisi.  The judges for the first season included: online Radio DJ, Mr. R of the PNC What'sHotRadio show, Ms. Claudia Mabrey Filmmaker and founder  of NarrowWay Productions and Mr. Julio Tumbaco - NY Writer/Producer of JJ Entertainment Media.

After the 1st Season, we considered changing venues because some people were apprehensive about coming to a house to perform.  But after all of the positive feedback and the warmth that everyone feels once they arrive, we have chosen to continue at the same location.  "If churches can start in homes, then why can't the NJ Performance Lab start and grow in a home?"  "After all, God gave me the vision to bring something positive and new to my community, so I will follow as he leads",  says Ms. Spencer,

As we enter the 2nd Season of the NJPL, DeeWorks Entertainment is looking for more talent to emerge from East Orange and the surrounding communities.  Currently seeking Actors with Monologues/Mini Skits, Singers, Poets, Comedians, Musicians, even Dancers.  Anyone who is interested in showcasing their talent, developing their talent, gaining confidence by performing in front of a live audience, trying out that new poem, song or comedy routine are encouraged to come to the NJ Performance Lab and "Hit the Stage".

Another exciting thing that happens at the performance lab is the featuring of Spotlight Artist.  Spotlight Artist are special guest performers who are already established in the entertainment business but are still grinding to make a name for themselves. The NJPL offers them an opportunity to perform and hopefully gain new found fans and supporters.  Spotlight Artist usually perform 15-20 minutes while the judges deliberate and have an opportunity to promote their new or current CD's, DVD's or upcoming concerts or performances.  Past spotlight artists have included: Hip/Hop Artist Jumz,  LaFonda, Hasan Salaam, Poets - Helena D. Lewis, Shadowkat, Krosswords, Soulful Jones, Comedians Elaine Williams and Darnell Wright,  and Actress Shundra Grubb from Dallas, TX.

This new season of the NJPL will start on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008 and will convene every other Friday.  Persons interested in attending should call the NJPL Hotline for updates or email Ms. Dee Spencer for inquiries.
The NJPL is also currently seeking volunteers to come on board to help with video/photography/door monitors/talent coordinator/concessions.  Also seeking businesses intertested in sponsoring our event. Our current sponsors are Yvonne & Steve Marshall of Exit Platinum Reality, Montclair, NJ.

NJPL - Admission is free for the first 5 performers who sign in and $5.00 for audience and late performers.  This seasons prizes will include weekly trophy/cash prize.
for inquiries email: njperformancelab@gmail.com or call the NJPL hotline at 832-216-9481

We hope that everyone will come out and support and prepare to have a great time. We are happy to welcome back our resident DJ spinning the tunes dan bush aka DJ DMix.
