Twilight Movie - Just Another Vampire Flick?

John Turner says: "The Twilight movie is a Romeo and Juliet story intwined with Vampire myth. A familiar theme to be sure, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It all depends on the direction and the casts' delivery."

Sept. 18, 2008 - PRLog -- "There is no shortage of vampire movies around and Buffy the Vampire Slayer popularized the genre on TV. Sometimes I get the feeling that the producers care more about wowing the audience with special effects and contrived action sequences than telling a good story. I don't think the Twilight movie falls into that category," says John T.

While intended as speculative fiction, the genre hits close to home. Vampires, in most cases, can pass for regular humans, and take their victims by suprise. This adds a chill factor that sits well with the gothic horror vibe.

The movie will be the first in a series based on the  #1 New York Times bestselling book series by Stephenie Meyer. They are targeted towards a young gender-neutral audience, though they are well known for having a large female fan base.

"Even young teenagers are drawn to more than just action," Turner explains. "Particularly with novels, for them to even sit down and consistently read, they need to become immersed in the imagery and feel like they are a part of the characters' world. This is what the books deliver and what the producers of the Twilight movie intend to convey to the audience. The violent action scenes and demographically appropriate cast should be the icing on the cake."

Reactions to the trailer have been largely positive. Only time will tell if this movie joins the ranks of the immortal, like its vampiric characters, or slips quietly into the night to be quickly forgotten.

The Twilight movie is due for cinema release in November 2008.
