Sept. 9, 2008 - PRLog -- Dundrum Town Centre has announced details of 444 new jobs at the Centre this morning, Tuesday, 9th September 2008. Details of the 444 positions, due to come into effect by November 2008, were unveiled as part the on-going development at the Centre.  The job announcement was made by guest of honour An Cathaoirleach Tom Joyce Cllr. in the presence of An Tánaiste Mary Coughlan T.D..

The new positions will be created with the opening of Pembroke District and Dundrum South, two new retail and leisure areas within the Centre. Dundrum South, which saw the arrival of the RSA Head Office and the relocation of an additional 600 employees to Dundrum in June, is located on Sandyford Road and will welcome tenants such as Snow & Rock, Hughes and Hughes and Elvery Sports to the Centre, amongst others. Pembroke District, located off Town Square will be home to the world famous Hamleys Toy Store and Gant, as well as new additions to the Centre’s diverse food offering including The Counter, Aya, Nandos, Ananda, Poppies and Roly Saul.

Commenting on the latest announcement Don Nugent, Centre Director, Dundrum Town Centre said: “Dundrum Town Centre continues to attract new tenants and Irish retail firsts to the centre, which highlights retailers’ confidence in the Irish retail market. It is this same assurance that has led to the creation of a further 444 jobs, which will be coming into effect over the coming weeks.

He added: “Dundrum’s success can be attributed to the Centre’s exceptional mix of tenants, extensive trading hours, weather proof shopping, inviting environment and easy access by LUAS or road, along with outstanding car parking facilities.”

A number of new and existing retailers will be taking part in a forth-coming jobs fair at Dundrum Town Centre. The jobs fair will take place on Friday, September 12th from 2pm to 8pm in Unit 39, which is located on Level 3 adjacent to House of Fraser. Those taking part in this open recruitment process include House of Fraser, Hamleys, Free Spirit, Harvey Nichols, Marks and Spencer and Tesco’s. As well as a remuneration pack from the specific retailer, all Dundrum Town Centre staff are immediately part of the centre’s incentive scheme, which allows centre staff access to discounts and special offers available from many of the centre’s stores.

Commenting on this significant announcement Cathaoirleach Tom Joyce Cllr., said: “I am delighted to unveil today’s positive news. For someone who has grown up and is still living in Dundrum, today’s announcement is another sign of the success that Dundrum Town Centre has brought to the area. When you consider the site before the development took place, it was difficult to envisage the scale, look and community feel that Dundrum Town Centre would bring to the village of Dundrum. The Dundrum Town Centre success story has been amazing, unrivalled throughout the country and I feel extremely proud of the centre, today’s announcement and the continued success that the centre enjoys”.

An Tánaiste Mary Coughlan added: “The  retail  sector  plays  an  important role in the Irish economy with around 200,000 people, almost one in ten of the workforce, employed in shops, big and  small,  throughout  Ireland.  The last few years have seen rapid sales growth in the retail sector.  In real terms, the volume of retail sales grew by almost 6 per cent per year between 2005 and 2007, a rate of growth without parallel in any other economy in the euro area. While the period ahead will be challenging, today’s announcement of 444 jobs reflects confidence in the continued growth in this important sector.”

Dundrum Town Centre opened its doors in March 2005 with 15 first time retailers in Ireland including Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser, H&M and Massimo Dutti. The latest addition of 14 retailers sees a further introduction of 9 retail-firsts to Ireland. To date, Dundrum Town Centre has welcomed more than 52 million visitors through its doors. This latest announcement reaffirms that Dundrum Town Centre is Ireland’s premier retail and shopping destination, which has also been highlighted by winning over 25 international and national awards including the Global RLI International Shopping Centre 2006 and the ICSC European Shopping Centre 2007. Dundrum Town Centre was also awarded the Parents Choice Most Family Friendly Centre in 2007 and Most Child Friendly Centre in 2006.

Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamonn Ryan T.D., who was due to but unable to make the announcement due to work commitments stated: “I very much welcome the announcement of over 400 jobs for the Dundrum area, and wish the staff every success in the expanding centre.”
