Carter Tops Among Living Presidents

Jimmy Carter Ranks as the Best Presidential Leader Among All Living Presidents

Sept. 7, 2008 - PRLog -- If you owned a large company, which living US President would you want running it? Bill Clinton? George Bush? W?

Not us, we’d want Jimmy Carter.

One of the last honest Presidents, Jimmy Carter is the type of leader every company in America should seek. He’s principled, has high integrity, he can delegate and he will always put his needs behind the needs of others. Though vilified by some, Carter showed great courage in boycotting the 1980 Summer Olympics in the Soviet Union – even though this move likely cost him a second term. While in office, he was never concerned with himself or his cronies, and once asked for the resignation of several of his cabinet members. Carter was one of the most selfless Presidents to ever serve the United States, and he seemed grateful every day that America allowed him to serve.

In the wake of the November 4 Presidential elections, a top leadership development and management training weblog, AskTheManager.com, examined the management styles, leadership traits and true success of all 42 US Presidents. While the Presidents have been repeatedly ranked by historians on the effectiveness of their respective Presidencies over the years, AskTheManager.com took a truly different approach.

How would any of the 42 US Presidents perform if they were put in charge of a Fortune 500 corporation today? Which ones possessed true leadership traits like integrity, humility and delegation, and which ones were egomaniacal do-nothings? Which Presidents had what it takes to be a successful business leader in today’s economy and which ones were too busy worrying about the next election?

Carter is Seventh, While George W. Bush Ranks 36

Before you accuse the editors of AskTheManager.com of being partisan and choosing Democrats over Republicans, George H. W. Bush ranks higher than Bill Clinton (who was ranked as a below average Presidential Leader). Running the United States and running a large, for-profit corporation have more similarities than differences. Whom would you choose to run your company if you had your pick from the 42 men who served as President of the United States?
