DANA POINT, CALIFORNIA — Is third time the charm for actor Charlie Sheen? In September, the star of “Two and a Half Men” will go up against Steve Carell of “The Office” in the category of Lead Actor in a Comedy  bestowed at the 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Joining Sheen and Carell  are Tony Shalhoub of “Monk” and Alec Baldwin of “30 Rock.”

For the past three years, Sheen has been nominated in this category for his role in “Two and a Half Men.” The recognition of his talent has not always been forthcoming. Sheen's first major studio film was the 1984 teen war drama, Red Dawn, followed by Platoon in 1986 and Wall Street in 1987. But his penchant for alcohol, drugs, gambling and prostitutes began to take a toll on his professional life. He quickly developed the image of a hard-partying womanizer. Although Sheen was admitted to several drug rehabs, none were successful. Then in 1998, nearly 10 years after his initial Hollywood success, Sheen was hospitalized in Thousand Oaks, California, following a near-fatal drug overdose.

In 2000, a sober Sheen was chosen to replace Michael J. Fox in ABC's Spin City and later, the  role of “Charles” in Two and a Half Men.

Alcoholism or drug dependency don’t just happen overnight so it stands to reason that they don’t disappear overnight either. It took Sheen nearly 10 years of perpetual alcohol and drug abuse and repeated attempts through drug rehab to get sober, and stay sober. It takes courage, dedication and the caring support of a team of professionals to help an individual recover from alcohol and drug addiction; without that support, Sheen would not necessarily be as successful with his sobriety as he is today.  SouthCoast Recovery is proud to be nation’s top drug and alcohol rehab center with specialized 30, 60, 90-day and 6 month residential treatment programs in southern California geared towards helping to treat people of all walks of life including Hollywood stars with drug and alcohol problems like Charlie Sheen in our Executive Program.
