Aug. 27, 2008 - PRLog -- Local art and design groups will launch FREEZE, a winter exhibition and series of public programs in Anchorage, at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 7 to 11 p.m.

Enjoy fine wine, free food and live music by local artist Sean Mormelo, while experiencing a modern polar ambiance. Attendees will join Mayor Mark Begich and Museum Director James Pepper Henry as they get a sneak peak at the concepts for the outdoor installations.

The event also offers a preview of the Alaska Design Forum’s lecture season.

FREEZE officially commences with a New Year’s Eve party at the Anchorage Museum on Dec. 31, 2008, with a public opening of the installations, featuring snow, ice and light – elements that characterize winter in the north – along the Delaney Park Strip in downtown Anchorage on Jan. 10, 2009. The designers will be present in Anchorage for a 10-day period, realizing and constructing their installations and participating in public lectures and programs. This is the largest collection of designers of international standing ever to be organized in Anchorage, creating work and discussing issues related to architecture, art and the north.

FREEZE is organized and hosted by the Alaska Design Forum, the International Gallery of Contemporary Art and the Anchorage Museum. The exhibition is curated by Julie Decker, Ph.D., author, artist, independent curator and gallery director, in association with Brian Carter, Dean of Architecture and Planning for SUNY Buffalo, an architect and award-winning author of numerous books on modern architecture.

This event is open to the public, with a suggested donation of $25.
