The Artists’ Guild of Boca Raton, its Images Gallery and all of its 445 artists and Members will be homeless beginning October 2008. After receiving their official 60 day notice this month to vacate their current temporary space held at Mizner Park, they now face an urgency to relocate within this short timeframe.  The Guild was hoping to be moved into the new Mizner Park Cultural Building as a permanent home that was formally the Cartoon Museum before their lease expires.  But unfortunately the space is now in jeopardy due to construction and code issues.  The loss of this space also means the loss of the build-out grant for the new gallery.  An important exhibition locale for The Artists’ Guild trying to secure a real home in order to continue presenting the high caliber, original fine artworks, of some of the most gifted artists, as they have always done in their  54 year existence.   “Unless a new location is identified quickly, the Images show opening reception held on Wednesday, August 27th, would be the last Images exhibition presented by The Artists’ Guild for the foreseeable future including their monthly Art Walk held at Mizner Park,” said Anjal TS,  international artist and volunteer at The Artists Guild who has spearheaded an awareness campaign that includes other artists from the Guild.  “The community of South Florida Artists, Connoisseurs, and Collectors has long known the importance of art and how it enhances the quality of life for South Palm Beach County, in making it a great place to live and work”, continues Anjal signing a petition in support of The Artists’ Guild, a non-profit Auxiliary of The Boca Raton Museum of Art that house over 445 members today who needs a necessary exhibition space and home to facilitate and enhance the art culture of South Florida.

The Guild is a vital component to the downtown art district of Boca Raton. Every month new painters, sculptors, and photographers join the Guild.  Some are veterans of the arts, some are just out of Art school eager to have their work juried by other professional artists, and learning from their peers in an environment completely dedicated to the arts. “They volunteer  weekly at the Images Gallery, where the public can meet the Artist, ask questions, discuss the artwork, attend monthly exhibits, and become an intricate part of the robust art scene at Mizner Park,” adds Elle Asti, photographer and member of the Artists’ Guild.  “The vibrant history about The Artists’ Guild of Boca Raton is undoubtedly an essential backdrop to the City’s artistic heritage and spotlights the many diverse high caliber mediums of art from oils, pastels, acrylics, photography, sculptures, and so many new mediums yet to be discovered,” concludes Elle Asti.  The Guild is a lifeline to many emerging artists eagerly waiting as the season approaches for their works to be exhibited.

With less than 60 days left on their lease, the artist struggles to remain optimistic, waiting to see if their community and City supporters will unite and aid in their plight to preserve this historical organization.  When 50 years ago, Boca Raton had only one mall, one library, and a population of less than 1000; The library was the only cultural center in town where community artists of the Guild gathered and had open house exhibits, which eventually led to the foundation of the Boca Raton Museum of Art.  Today, a new generation of community artists emerges again to support their Artists’ Guild in raising an awareness of its history and needed preservation into a permanent building anchored amidst an art loving community.  A place The Artists’ Guild can truly call “Home”.
