Aug. 21, 2008 - PRLog -- (WAYNE, NJ)—In past weeks, Stephen Della Valle, author of Rising Above the Influence: A True Story About Alcohol, Drugs and Recovery met with an assortment of producers and well known actors—including cast members of the Emmy award winning show Sopranos—to discuss turning his hit book into a motion picture.

Since the release of his book in late April, Stephen has gained national exposure through TV and radio appearances, catching the eye of producers across the country.

“I have received several phone calls regarding writing a screenplay for my book,” says Stephen, who is also the President of Turning Point Rehabilitation Center in Verona, NJ.  “At this stage we are determining who the best fit to handle the project is.”

In Rising Above the Influence Stephen recounts his real life battle with drugs and alcohol, and what ultimately led him to getting sober.  What has set this book apart from others of its kind is that Stephen holds nothing back in telling his nightmarish tale of how his life so quickly and easily spindled out of control.

“Most people do not seem to realize the true dangers of substance abuse,” says Stephen.  “I hope my book can serve as a tool to bring awareness of the dark and ugly road addiction brings people down.”

Much like the lives the characters on the Sopranos lived, Stephen’s life was consumed with violence, embezzlement and crime, leading him to various jails and prisons.

“When I was at the peak of my addiction there wasn’t anything I wouldn’t do to get what I needed to feed my habits,” Stephen recalls.  “And I learned firsthand that the life of crime is not as glamorous as they make it appear on TV and the big screen.”

Today, as Stephen celebrates his twentieth year of sobriety, he focuses his goals on helping others to achieve the lifestyle he has.

“Statistics prove that teens and young adults are using prescription and illicit drugs for the first time at an alarming rate,” says Stephen.  “If we adults can educate them about substance abuse at an early age, then they will have a lesser chance of being consumed by a life of addiction.”
