Aug. 21, 2008 - PRLog -- Brock Built is busily putting the finishing touches on their EarthCraft certified home, The Green House; which will be sold online by Interstate Auction with proceeds benefiting Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Interior decorating began last week, in just enough time for the official unveiling of the home this week. The eco-friendly home, located at 1536 Craftsman Drive, Atlanta, GA  30318, will be open to the public August 23 through October 3 on Wednesdays and Fridays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The home will be sold  to the highest bidder through an online auction that runs September 17 through October 3. All of the proceeds of the sale will benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Bidding will start at $350,000 and interested bidders should visit the the Brock Built Web site, www.brockbuilt.com/extreme_green for more information.

The home showcases environmentally friendly and sustainable design features attainable for the typical Atlanta family. Such features include energy efficient appliances, plumbing, doors and windows as well as environmentally friendly paints, cleaners and recycled insulation, foundation and siding. Contributions were made for the funds, services, building materials, fixtures, appliances and everything else necessary to build the home.  All of the participating vendors demonstrated their commitment to EarthCraft standards.

Brock Built is working in partnership with WSB-TV Channel 2 in the “Going Green 2008” campaign, an important program addressing an issue that is changing the quality of life of every citizen in Georgia. WSB –TV has filmed the entire building process and will run a special one-hour prime time program in September telling the story of the innovative partnership behind the home’s creation, as well as the remarkable transformation of the larger West Highlands community. The program will also help consumers understand what they can do in their own homes to go green.

The EarthCraft program is a voluntary green building program which serves as a blueprint for healthy, comfortable homes that reduce utility bills and protect the environment. EarthCraft homes are thoroughly inspected and tested (for factors such as air leakage and
carbon monoxide safety) before the homeowner moves in. They are proven to help save energy and water and conserve natural resources. They are more affordable because they help homeowners lower energy costs by up to 30%, lower maintenance and repair costs, and even lower doctor’s bills for health problems related to poor indoor air quality.

In addition to public tours, the home is also open for local business and organizations to rent out for meetings or special events. There will be no fee to tour the home but donations to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta are encouraged and greatly appreciated.

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, one of the leading pediatric healthcare systems in the country, is a not-for-profit organization that benefits from the generous philanthropic and volunteer support of our community. Operating three hospitals with more than half a million patient visits annually, Children’s is recognized for excellence in cancer, cardiac, neonatal, orthopedic and transplant services, as well as many other pediatric specialties.
