Volkwagen offers their solution to economical, clean driving with the release of the all-new 2009 VW Jetta TDI and Jetta Sportswagen TDI.  VW hopes to dispell the myth of "dirty diesels" with its newly redesigned diesel engine - a 2.0 liter, 4-cylinder engine capable of producing 140 hp and 236 pounds-feet of torque.  This engine uses a common-rail fuel injection system that uses piezoelectric fuel injectors and a NOx storage catalyst, which essentially acts as a reservoir of sorts to temporarily store the noxious emissions until they can be consumed during an engine cycle (up to 90% of the pollution!).  This ensures higher injection pressures which more efficiently consumes the fuel - making it a cleaner system all-around.

Those keeping a close eye on performance will not be disappointed, either.  The 2009 VW Jetta TDI is no slouch when accelerating from the stoplights, and handles itself equally well on the highways and city streets.  Losing none of the peppiness, the Jetta TDI performs just as well or better than a regular Jetta, but allows up to a 30% greater fuel economy than its standard brother.  The 2009 VW Jetta is expected to exceed 40 mpg in the city and 50 mpg on the highway.
