Aug. 3, 2008 - PRLog -- Just about everyone under the sun is inclined to seek good food if/when it’s available -and cost-effective, too. Food is also a social commodity. Most tend to eat with others, be they family members, friends, colleagues, strangers, or a general mix of people. So it’s only sensible that some enterprising folks would create networks for sharing information regarding the culinary arts and its many levels of complexity. One name that recently entered the fold is Garlicoon.

Already there are several networks that have crossed our plate. GroupRecipes, FoodTube, Eat, Drink or Die, Open Source Food, BakeSpace, and FriendsEAT are just some that spring to mind. There are sites like Vinix and DueSpaghi that serve Italian audiences well, too. Garlicoon, however, is a bit different than the others. Some sites are heavy on media, with lots of videos to see.

Garlicoon has more of a balance. No one section or region crowds another. Each and every bit seems meant to be browsed and sampled. The website is designed to get visitors involved enough to become members who stay active in as many areas as possible; whether it be promoting a clip, conversing with fellow users individually or in groups, writing blog posts, or making plans to attend events.

Now, a quick look at Garlicoon shows that sports a much more basic appearance than many other networks of its kind. First-timers might be forgiven for thinking it a bit drab compared to more colorful venues. Its theme is a rough one for sure. But where Garlicoon makes its impact is not in its external design. Its functions are what hold it together. And because it proves easy to understand, and holds the line between social interaction and substance, it delivers a quite pleasant experience. Interactivity with a healthy doze of entertainment is its recipe for success.

We should stress again that the network is at an early stage of its life, so one shouldn’t expect to spend countless hours trawling its media archive or gather thousands upon thousands of friends. If you’re looking for a big hitter, Garlicoon may not please. But there’s certainly enough material in evidence that interest garnered among the budding membership will last. Of course, much of its future depends on its ability to satisfy user demands, of which there’s bound to be plenty.
