Aug. 1, 2008 - PRLog -- On September 6th, 2008 history will be made in downtown Akron as Lock 3 Park presents the First Annual Hip Hop Showcase featuring DJ Mick Boogie, Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick.

The 1st Annual Hip Hop Showcase has been labor of love for the event’s promoters Ismail Al-Amin and Donovan Rodgers of Hip Hop advocacy organization Keepers of The Art, incorporated.

The duo (who also hosts the radio show Hip Hop Flavas on WAPS) along with their loyal, hardworking fellow members has been working tirelessly in putting the showcase together for over a year.

“The 1st Annual Hip Hop Showcase is a friendly oriented event, which will close the gap the generation gap between the youth and the elder population,” says Keeper of The Arts Ismail Al-Amin.  “We’re looking at this as a great opportunity for parents and children to come together and enjoy Hip Hop’s true roots and messages.”

Beginning at 3pm, the day long showcase will feature, positive social conscious rappers including The Poetic Republic, Ace Boogie, Cap C, Low Budget, MC Asheru (Boondocks) as well as live B-Boys and Graffiti artists.

On Friday September 5th Keepers of the Art Inc. will present a Teachers Symposium at The Gardner Student Center at The University of Akron  between 6pm-8pm, the event is free.  Social workers are encouraged to attend as well as Akron, Canton and Cleveland teachers who can obtain CEU’s (Continuing Education Units).

The Teacher’s Symposium will stress culturally relevant education as well as equality and excellence in the class room. The featured speaker will be educator/artist Gabriel Benn, who will be presenting his H.E.L.P curriculum (Hip Hop Education Literacy Program), a creative reading program that combines the power of Hip-Hop with proven reading instruction.

Al-Amin continues, “The purpose of this weekend is to spotlight Hip Hop’s social conscious. To provide the community at large with an alternate perspective of Hip Hop to what most individuals are use to getting from mainstream media outlets like BET, MTV and major urban radio stations.”
