Ancient Japanese craft (re)desiged for today

Japanese fine washi paper manufacturer, Awagami Factory of Tokushima has recently colloborated with an American designer to bridge the gap between East and West and between age-old craft and modern design.
 
July 29, 2008 - PRLog -- Awagami factory, fine washi paper and stationery manufacturers from Tokushima, Japan recently launched their new stationery and gift line branded under the name “Awagami+1".  Created in collaboration with American designer, Craig Anczelowitz , the Awagami+1 collection consists of journals, albums, and desk accessories which harmoniously fuse traditional Japanese craftsmanship with design elements and functionality of western design. The much anticipated collection ihas been created with various specialty washi paper papers including traditional hand-stenciled "yuzen" patterned papers and Awgami's new organic “syuro” papers made from rice straw waste.
