July 20, 2008 - PRLog -- There is a movement happening right now in the video game world that centers around non-stop, multi-day video game marathons being played for charity online. Personal video gaming marathons where someone stays up for multiple days playing a series of games are nothing new, but it was only a few months ago that someone decided to broadcast their marathon online and take donations for charity. This inspired the wildly successful Mario marathon that ran last month and raised over $11,000 for charity while entertaining over 60,000 unique viewers. The success of that marathon created a massive demand for more and there so far has been no shortage of people inspired by it to create their own to fill that demand. As of this writing, there have been five more gaming marathons since the Mario marathon, and there are many, many more taking place in July and August, and beyond.

Because of this explosion of marathon activity and completely new gaming genre, a website was desperately needed to advertise and list every single upcoming marathon and to honor those who have already taken place. So I took the initiative to create http://www.GameMarathons.com to do just that. I've worked very hard to create a feature rich, user-friendly, yet informative site that lists every single past, present, and future gaming marathon for as long as they continue to happen. This allows fans of these entertaining marathons to have a concise and complete list of them in one place so they never miss another one as it goes live, and also helps those running marathons to publicise and advertise themselves on a popular, centralized website, so as to get as many viewers and donations to charity as possible.

The site is largely complete with features such as an archive of past marathons, a clear and informative How to guide to running a successful marathon, and newly implemented forums with which to build a community. Now it's just a matter of getting the word out to everyone that the site exists, and is serving the gaming marathon community. The goal is for the site to be as popular as possible, making each marathon in turn as popular as possible, which means the charities that are being played for can receive as much money as possible. Also, once it becomes more widespread, it'll be almost impossible for anyone to argue that video games and gamers are evil or a bad influence on the world when they see such tireless effort from thousands of gamers put to the vanguard of charity on a weekly basis.

Take some time out to visit this completely non-profit website, check out some upcoming marathons, and if you like what you see, please let me know and spread the word. This is the birth of a new and unique form of internet entertainment that not only entertains and has the potential for widespread advertisement, but also makes money for charity at the same time.
