![]() Pleasure Island 15th Annual Seafood Blues & Jazz Festival featuring Johnny and Edgar WinterCarolina Beach, NC – The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce will be holding the 15th Annual Seafood, Blues and Jazz Festival on October 11th and 12th at the Fort Fisher Military Recreation Area in Kure Beach.
For over 30 years, Johnny Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signing with Columbia records in 1969, Johnny immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues – a prime combination for the legions of fans just discovering the blues via the likes of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Constantly shifting between simple country blues to all-out electric slide guitar blues-rock, Johnny has always been one of the most respected singers and guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues-rock and American Southern rock a la the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, Johnny was the unofficial torch-bearer for the blues, championing and aiding the careers of his idols like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. In fact Waters has taken to referring to Johnny as his “adopted son”. Most recently, Johnny was nominated for a Grammy Award for his disc “I’m a Bluesman”. Edgar Winter is a child prodigy who achieved international success early on. Edgar has found an audience in every major entertainment medium – music, film and television. A prolific writer, Edgar’s music encompasses many different genres, including rock, jazz, blues and pop. From his debut release in 1970, he has demonstrated his unique style and ability to cross the genre lines and do the unexpected. Edgar’s music can be heard in such films as My Cousin Vinny, What’s Love Got to do With It, Wayne’s World2, Wag the Dog, The Simpsons, Tupac Resurrection and many more. Edgar’s live shows consistently receive rave reviews. His music is always evolving and he is a master at stretching his skill and imagination to produce amazing results, always remaining on the cutting edge of music and style. This year’s festival will also feature other amazing acts including blues favorites Blues World Order, Sean Carney Band, Robin Rogers, Harper, Delta Moon, Lightnin’ Wells, 10 Dollar Thrill, Medusa Does the Blues and Sammy O’Banion with Mardi Gras.
