June 30, 2008 - PRLog -- It’s like the “Extreme Home Makeover” show right here in Westmoreland County. One week, one house ~ one amazing gift for a family in need. Habitat for Humanity has made the television dream a reality right next door, as they are putting the final touches on a house that only began being built from the ground up this past weekend.

Many companies and organizations from all over the county helped come together to build a house for the “HomeBuilders Blitz 2008” – an event that helps a family who is currently residing in substandard housing and has been turned down for a conventional mortgage. The family who eventually moves in will have to pay the mortgage for the house, although it is low. They are also required to spend 350 volunteer hours either lending a hand during the construction of the house or helping the organization. The policy Habitat for Humanity has on this project is “We don’t hand someone a home, we lend them one.”  All the same, it is a great act of kindness and giving – and has really brought the community together to work towards achieving the final goal.

One company involved in the construction was Energy Swing Windows, located at 3245 Miracle Drive in Murrysville. Chris Saxton, Client Consultant for the replacement windows and doors company, was approached by a past customer to have a hand in the project, and was on-site Tuesday afternoon helping the contractors install windows in the house.

“Energy Swing Windows has always been very involved in the community, so I was excited when Brian Mischler, a customer of ours, approached me with the idea. The contractors working on the house installed ten of our windows, which will help to keep the costs down on the energy bills for the family moving in,” Saxton said.

The house is located at 913 Arlington Avenue in Jeannette, PA. Today, there will be a blessing of the house at 5:00 pm, followed by a concert at 7:00 pm at Pitt Greensburg’s Chambers Hall Gymnasium. The project is one of 263 similar projects happening at the same time all across the country. Each chapter of Habitat for Humanity, nationwide, is responsible for building one house. National and local sponsors offer many of their products and services to the cause.
