Turning Winds Academic Institute Announces SEVP Approval

Student and Exchange Visitor Program will give more student the opportunity to enroll in private boarding school for troubled teens.

June 23, 2008 - PRLog -- Troy, MT -- Turning Winds Academic Institute, a specialty boarding school for at-risk teens, is pleased to announce its approval by the Department of Homeland Security to be a part of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). Under Federal law, SEVP approval will enable Turning Winds to enroll students with non-immigrant status.

“We’re excited about completing the SEVP approval process,” said Owen Baisden, senior vice president of Turning Winds Academic Institute.

“This will give more students the opportunity to take advantage of our one-of-kind academic and therapeutic services,” he added.

Based in northwest Montana, Turning Winds Academic Institute provides academic programs for boys and girls, ages 12 to 18, addressing issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, behavioral disorders, poor academic performance and other related issues. The intensive 12-month program is designed to treat students and then mainstream them back into traditional academic environments.

As part of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Student and Exchange Visitor Program acts as a bridge for government organizations that have an interest in obtaining information of foreign students. The SEVP is used to track and monitor schools, programs and students throughout the duration of approved participation within the United States education system.

Turning Winds Academic Insitutute is only one of a few boarding schools of its kind to have obtained SEVP approval.

“This approval is just another example of our continued desire to do all we can to better ourselves as an academic institution,” said Baisden. “We look forward to adding additional programs and services in the near future.”

With enrollment capability of up to 40 students, Turning Winds takes prides in its small, intimate environment that offers low student-teacher ratios and the ability to prevent students from “slipping through the cracks.”
