Howard Community Healthcare Foundation To Host "A Day At The Races" Event August 16, 2008

June 18, 2008 - PRLog -- The Howard Community Healthcare Foundation will host the “A Day at the Races” event on Saturday, August 16 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Enjoy a fun summer evening at the new hospital site on East Hill Road with hospital bed races, food, live music, and arts & crafts booths.  The hospital bed races will serve as the cornerstone of the event with each team eligible for prizes and recognition.  Contests will range from the best decorated bed to teams that raise the most money by collecting sponsorships and donations.

“A Day at the Races” will bring the community together in an effort to bring a world-class hospital and healthcare campus to Willits.  When $25,000 or more is raised from the event, the community will be able to take advantage of a “Naming Opportunity.”  Upon reaching the goal, a patient room will be named in honor of the community of Willits with a plaque that reads, “Donated on behalf of the Willits Community ‘A Day at the Races’ August 16, 2008.”  Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for youth ages 13-18 and Seniors 62+, children under 12 are free.  To purchase tickets or if you are interested in information on how to put together a team or vendor booth please call 707 459-3047.

The new facility will be built to specifications set by the United States Green Building Council for new construction known as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).  This places Willits as the first rural community to construct a ‘green’ hospital campus in the United States.  As an important economic driver in the local community the positive financial implications of this project are significant. The direct impact of jobs at the hospital, the ancillary businesses that will be necessary and, importantly, the talented minds drawn into the community, will help provide a needed economic shot in the arm.

“Our goal is to secure many of the necessary funds by applying for grants from private foundations and corporate giving programs,” says Fund Development Coordinator Ian Fitzpatrick.  “However, it is equally important that the people of our community continue to have opportunities to contribute and feel a sense of ownership in the new hospital.  Our local residents and businesses have already done an amazing job of stepping up to the plate in support of our cause for which we can’t express enough thanks.  In the continued interest of building community pride, ‘A Day at the Races’ will serve as an excellent way for us to not only raise additional local dollars but also allow all of us to say that we built the new hospital together.”
