ASQ 2007 Crosby Medal winner Bijay Jayaswal Proud to be an alumnus of BITS Pilani Rajasthan

June 15, 2008 - PRLog -- The Crosby Medal is presented by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) to the individual who has authored a distinguished book contributing significantly to the extension of the philosophy and application of the principles, methods, or techniques of quality management. The past winners include Subir Chowdhury (2002), James R Evans and William M Lindsay 92003), Forrest W Breyfogle III (2004), Gregory Watson (2005).

ASQ the world’s leading authority on quality advances learning, quality improvement, and knowledge exchange to improve business results, and to create better workplaces and communities worldwide. To recognize leadership, technical achievement, and distinguished service to the profession and Society, ASQ has set up and operates a comprehensive Awards Program. These awards are presented at the Society’s World Conference on Quality and Improvement in the spring of each year.

The awards recognize individuals for superior achievements in the development, promotion, and communication of quality information and technology. Awards and medals are named after people who have made outstanding achievements in the field of quality.

In Houston, Texas, on May 5, 2008, ASQ presented three Distinguished Service Medals and 10 National Awards for the year 2007 during its annual World Conference which was attended by a host of invited dignitaries from industry, academia and government.

The Crosby Medal was bagged by Pearson Authors Bijay Jayaswal and Dr. Peter Patton for the book Design for Trustworthy Software: Tools, Techniques, and Methodology of Developing Robust Software. Bijay Jayaswal has held senior executive positions and has consulted in quality and strategy for the last nearly three decades. His consulting and research interests include value engineering, process improvement, and product development. He has taught engineering and management at the University of Mauritius and California State University, Chico and has directed MBA and Advanced Management programs. He has helped introduce corporate-wide initiatives in reengineering, Six Sigma, and Design for Six Sigma and has worked with senior executive teams to implement such initiatives.

From 1967 to 1972, Bijay was a student of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani Rajasthan India which is one among the top ranking universities in India today with global reputation from where he obtained his Bachelor Engineering Honors in Electrical Engineering.

After receiving the award, Bijay Jayaswal’s exclusive message to his beloved alma mater conveyed “It has been a long time since I graduated from BITS in 1972 but it does not appear to be that distant. I carry many fond memories of BITS and am immensely indebted. I did visit BITS just once some 10 years back and really felt at home. BITS is always in my thoughts and I can hardy pay back what I owe to this great institution. Look forward to visiting the incredible Pilani campus sometime soon.”
