22nd Annual Marvin Gaye Jr. Appreciation Day Festival continues to celebrate the life and musical legacy of Marvin Gaye Jr.
 
June 7, 2008 - PRLog -- Washington, DC – The Marvin Gaye Jr. Appreciation Committee, Inc. is proud to present the 22nd Annual Marvin Gaye Jr. Appreciation Day Festival on June 7, 2008 at Watts Playground and Recreational Center, located at 6201 Bank Street., NE from dusk to dawn. This free public celebration heightens awareness and appreciation of the life and musical legacy of Marvin Gaye Jr. It also encourages growth and promotes awareness of quality arts found in the Washington, DC area. In its twenty-third year, the Marvin Gaye Jr. Appreciation Day Festival showcases unforgettable music, performing arts including dance, theatre, experimental music and story-telling by national and local artist. It also includes family events such as hands-on projects, demonstrations, competitions and an international menu of food and beverages.

The Marvin Gaye Jr. Appreciation Committee, Inc. is in the 22 year of planning, developing, and implementing the annual Marvin Gaye Jr. Appreciation Day Festival. The Committee has kept Marvin Gaye Jr.’s memory alive by acknowledging his music every year for the last two decades. In 1986, Mrs. Geraldine “Peasie” Adams, founder of The Marvin Gaye Jr. Appreciation Committee, Inc sponsored the annual Marvin Gaye Jr. Appreciation Day Festival with the help of family and friends of Marvin. By 1989, the collective participants; establishing themselves as a committee and has operated on a self-funded shoestring budget without any financial support from the governing bodies of the District of Columbia. Even with little funding, the event has still drawn thousands of attendees over the last 22 years by providing a venue for some of the country’s most talented singers and performers; as well as, local artists.

The Marvin Gaye Jr. Appreciation (MGJAD) Committee, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, engaged in efforts to promote Marvin Gaye Jr., a two-time Grammy winning American singer, who was born and raised in the East Capital Dwellings of Northeast Washington, DC. Through remembrance of his marvelous talent and rebuilding and dedicating the Watts Playground and Recreation Center, the MGJAD Committee is engaged in the following activities: Establishing and maintaining a Performance Arts program that allows children the opportunity to have their lives enriched by music and art; renaming and dedicating the Watts Playground and Recreation Center as the “The Marvin Gaye Jr. Recreational Cultural Museum Center”; and sponsoring The Marvin Gaye Jr. Appreciation Day Festival, a free public celebration that heightens awareness and appreciation of the life and musical legacy of Marvin Gaye Jr., encourages growth and promotes awareness of quality arts found in the District of Columbia.
