The city of Tangiers was the obvious and natural choice to host the Euro Mediterranean Forum. Tangiers’ strategic location has always made it historically, geographically and culturally the perfect link between Europe and Africa. It was in Tangiers where French President Nicolas Sarkozy reiterated his calls for the construction of a “Mediterranean Union.” The goal is to build and alliance between France together with a number of selected European countries like Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and the countries of the Maghreb. Nicolas Sarkozy stressed the importance of the event by stating that the time has come to pull all energies and wholeheartedly build the Mediterranean Union, since the region is absolutely crucial for world balance.
