DailyESL.com: Listening, Discussion, and Reading Activities to Help ESL/EFL Students Learn English

Randall's Website, DailyESL.com (http://www.dailyesl.com), tries to bridge the gap by providing language-learning materials and listening topics that mirror more realistic day-to-day language. (In other words, topics that students might see in academic readings about some exotic fish swimming in the depths of the ocean are subjects they will not use to start conversations with strangers.)

Thus, Daily ESL is designed to help learners become familiar with common vocabulary and expressions they can use all the time in many situations. Each activity includes the following:

1. Short reading on a high-frequency topic found in everyday situations.
2. An audio file in Windows Media format which followings the transcript of the reading.
3. Vocabulary activities to reinforce and review key vocabulary in the reading.
4. Discussion questions used to encourage critical-thinking skills.

The site is completely free, and Randall encourages teachers to use the site to supplement their classroom instruction. Learners using the site on their own will find the site useful for their independent learning.
