New Mc Donald’s In Palm Springs

May 27, 2008 - PRLog -- The newest Southern California McDonald’s opened on Friday, May 23, in the brand new Smoke Tree Commons shopping center in Palm Springs.  Designed by Palm Springs architect  James Cioffi,  renowned for his mastery of Mid-Century Modern design, this unique McDonald’s is so streamlined that is has only one Golden Arch.  Interiors were devised by Duane Ahmet of D S A Design Systems, Ltd. in Burbank, CA.

The first business to open in the Commons, it offers an open air patio seating 60 and interior windows that showcase views of the majestic San Jacinto mountains. Rock walls are composed of the revered Palm Spring Gold rock from Whitewater Rock & Supply. A tandem Drive Thru ordering system allows two drive-through orders to be placed simultaneously for faster service.

“Building this has been an adventure,” says owner/operator Dick Shalhoub. “There is no precedent for a Mid-Century Modern McDonald’s and we’ve managed to stay true to the core concepts of the philosophy.”  Shalhoub owns 21 McDonald’s in Southern California's Inland Empire, with 10 locations in the Coachella Valley.

Along with McDonald’s popular drip coffee, this location has a specialty McCafe coffee bar where a barista serves lattes, mochas and cappuccinos. All McDonald’s in the U.S. will soon have a McCafe. Other special technologies include the Franke cooking system, featuring three platen clam shell grills, and the first NuPOS point-of-sale solution from PAR Technology Corporation, a world leader in systems and service integration for the quick service restaurant industry.

“This is the newest, most innovative, and most site-appropriate McDonald’s in the country,” notes Shalhoub, “and we’re proud to have located it in the heart of Palm Springs.”

The McDonald’s at Smoke Tree Commons is open from 5 am to 11 pm Sunday through Thursday, remaining open until midnight on Friday and Saturday.  It is at 2465 E. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA.
