May 27, 2008 - PRLog -- You would have heard a mention of unclaimed funds and passed it off as a scam of sorts.  You will be surprised to know that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does in fact have plenty of unclaimed funds in their custody and these funds can belong to any United States citizen.  IRS revealed that they have around 70 million dollars in unclaimed funds at any point of time.

This means that there is a good chance that part of this could belong to you.  Almost around $30 billion dollars belongs to individuals and companies in the United States, as people may have forgotten about the financial institutions where the money was kept and forgotten about the money.  There are many people who did not keep a proper record about the money held in different financial institutions where they would have invested the money.  This could happen due to several reasons, such as ill health, disability or even death of the person concerned.

The figures also state that every one person in five usually has unclaimed money.  All this money is in the hands of the states, which gets used to having these huge amounts in their hands and enjoy the benefits and show little or no interest in trying to locate the owners of the money.

It is not only the common people that have to go through a lot to get their hands on the money, but even celebrities face this problem.  For example, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts and Kate Hudson all have missing money with the California state, but the California Unclaimed Property Trust Funds does not show any interest in giving their money back to them even when it is claimed.  They use this money that is with them, in solving issues related to the budget of the state.

It is suggested that if any of you have unclaimed funds, it is better not leave them with the state and go and claim them by filling out a form 1040EZ.
