Commuters in North Carolina's Triangle and Triad areas may be spared some pain at the pump. has been providing electric bike hub motor kits, cargo bikes, and folding bikes to many satisfied on-line customers. Increasing demand led them to open an entire store dedicated to help local commuters reduce the family fuel budget by making transportation cycling part of their daily lives. As a woman-owned business, they also strive to reach women and potential bike users who may not be comfortable in a store dedicated to recreational cycling.

Join Cycle9 for their Grand Opening event on Saturday May 31 from 1-5pm, at their new location 6 miles west of Carrboro, NC on Highway 54.  Experience how fun it is to ride a bike with an electric kit. See how easy it is to load and ride a cargo bike or take a passenger for a ride. Watch a folding bike demonstration that reveals how you can combine a folding bike with public transportation or even travel by plane with no additional charge for bringing a bike.

"We need to promote more people to get out of their cars and ride their bikes, walk, ride public transit, or whatever it takes to make our cities more peaceful, quiet, and clean, while reducing our dependency on foreign oil" says Dr. Morgan Giddings Co-Founder of Cycle9. "If 1/3 of the USA population replaced only 2 car trips per week with a bike trip using an electric assist bike [we] would save 5.5 billion gallons of gas, prevent the release of 59 million tons of CO2 and save $17 billion dollars. Our goal is to help people do this". Technologies like electric-assist increase the distance you can easily travel on a bike, and by making pedaling up hills easier, might encourage people to ride more often. With recent advances in bike hub motors and battery technology, an electric bike can easily achieve a 25 mile range at speeds up to 20mph while using just 5 cents worth of electricity. Electric conversion kits are easy to install, can be added to almost any bike, and are available in a range of prices.

Cargo bikes are a practical alternative to cars. The Xtracycle kit, which can be added to any bike, can carry 200 lbs in its stylish and well designed saddlebags, and can accomodate wide and long loads. The Yuba Mundo, a steel cargo bike, can carry even more, up to 440 lbs plus the rider. "The Xtracycle revolutionized the way I used my bike" says Dr. Giddings. "Now I can pick up my daughter from daycare and do errands on my way home from work without having to worry about where I'm going to load all of my groceries. Just drop the shopping bags in the Xtracycle saddlebags and I'm on my way. Best of all, I've been able to rediscover the joy and freedom of riding a bike while at the same time saving money and helping the environment".

Cycle 9's store is located 6 miles West of Carrboro Plaza on Hwy 54, in White Cross, NC. The address is 3501 NC 54 West, and the store is located behind Our Playhouse Preschool. The Grand Opening will be on Sat., May 31 from 1-5pm. Specials will be offered on safety lights and bike inner tubes will be on sale for $2, while supplies last (limit 5 per customer).
