May 20, 2008 - PRLog -- Odor control experts, Chempace Corporation announces the release of Odor Absorb Supreme, a technological breakthrough in formaldehyde elimination. Odor Absorb Supreme is a bold, new dimension in odor control solutions where health concerns meet immediate consumer needs.

Formaldehyde is a commonly found toxic gas released into the environment from several household sources, including:  fiberglass, carpets, permanent press fabrics, paper products, cleaners, manufactured wood, cigarettes and other tobacco products, gas cookers, open fireplaces, and smog. It has been generally used in the manufacturing process of travel trailers and mobile homes in the glues and adhesives for floor decking (particleboard), wood cabinetry (particleboard, paneling, medium-density particleboard) and furniture (particleboard, medium-density fiberboard). Health officials recognize exposure to formaldehyde causes irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and skin, and may lead to respiratory problems and cancer over time.

Although, there is no national standard or law for formaldehyde levels in conventional housing or unconventional homes such as mobile homes, travel trailers, and recreational vehicles, HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development), OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration), and ATSDR (Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry) have established guidelines for acceptable levels (see chart 1).

CHART 1 – PART A – Established Concentration Guidelines
(*Adapted from Noted Agency Website) (ppm is Parts Per Million)

0.4 ppm  Non-mandated target for indoor ambient air

0.2 ppm  Mandated for manufactured housing for emissions from plywood

0.3 ppm  Mandated for manufactured housing for emissions from particle board

0.75 ppm  Mandated for regulated workplaces (average 8 hour work day)

2.0 ppm  Mandated for regulated workplaces  (15 minutes of short term exposure)

0.04 ppm   Minimal Risk Level (MRL) 1-14 days exposure

0.03 ppm    Minimal Risk Level (MRL) 14-364 days exposure

0.008 ppm  Chronic Duration 365 or more days exposure

CHART 1 – PART B – Established Health Guidelines
(*Adapted from Several Agency Websites) (ppm is Parts Per Million)

0.5 – 2.0 ppm   Eyes, nose, and throat irritation

3.0 – 5.0 ppm   Tearing of the eyes

10.0 – 20.0 ppm   Difficulty breathing, nose/throat burning, heavy tearing of eyes

25.0 – 30.0 ppm   Severe respiratory tract injury

100.0 ppm   Immediately dangerous to life and health

During recent months the formaldehyde debate has become an important topic with over 4000 displaced Katrina victims exhibiting signs related to high levels of formaldehyde exposure due to the type of temporary housing supplied by FEMA. FEMA, in conjunction with the CDC, reported the average home tested to have 77 ppb (Parts Per Billion) of formaldehyde. This discovery has catapulted several new formaldehyde guidelines and regulations:

FEMA reported February 2008 they will no longer purchase temporary housing
with more than .016 ppm formaldehyde levels RVIA (Recreational Vehicle Industry Association) announced during the first quarter of 2008 they will implement a new found industry standard to .016 ppm formaldehyde limit HUD and other agencies are reexamining their current guidelines with no tentative changes

Chempace’s new Odor Absorb Supreme provides a low cost solution for the removal of existing dangerous formaldehyde gases. Odor Absorb Supreme went through rigorous laboratory testing and demonstrated a reduction of 23% of the formaldehyde gases after 24 hours with signs of continuous reduction capabilities. One canister of Odor Absorb Supreme has a lifespan of a minimum of 3 weeks depending on humidity.

Chempace recommends manufacturers of recreational vehicles to utilize three canisters per 864 square feet and five canisters for up to 1768 square feet with a total cost between $30-$75. Odor Absorb Supreme has a pleasant fragrance and is easy to use. Simply turn upside down, twist off the body, and remove outside canister for optimal exposure.

Chempace was established in 1968 and is internationally recognized as the “Solution People”. In January 2008 Chempace brought a breath of fresh air to the RV/Marine/Campground industry with the release of the technologically-advanced and economically-driven Ultra Series Line. Odor Absorb Supreme is just that – THE Solution for Formaldehyde Pollution!”

Odor Absorb Supreme’s patent-pending technology features an inexpensive alternative to the more expensive HEPA air filtration devices. Odor Absorb Supreme is priced for today’s consumer, easy to use, portable and self-contained. It features a pleasant industry-exclusive fragrance and requires no special disposal process.
